Even though the Roku Ultra isn’t the most expensive, it still offers some of the best streaming experience available. The price ranges from the $29 Roku Express, which will be getting an updated model this spring, to the $99 Roku Ultra. That’s not including the soundbars.

* The new Roku Express 2022 has received two upgrades.

* Roku OS 111.5 will make streaming more manageable.

* Meet the Roku Wireless Bass.

We at Tom’s Guide test Roku devices extensively, and some of us also use them for personal streaming. We love the $50 Roku streaming stick 4K (and the 4K Plus models too), so much we rank it the best streaming device overall.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K also makes a great streaming device, thanks to its small size. It is ideal for travel. Our senior editor explained why he always takes this Roku on vacation (though it was necessary to order a new one after he left Chicago with his previous one). The 4K Plus model was the first to include the Roku voice remote pro. However, things have changed as the Roku Utl got more “ultra” with Roku’s best remote.

While Roku is our favourite streaming device, it’s not the only one. To see the narrow victory of Roku, check out our Roku streaming stick 4K vs. Google TV to see it. Roku now has Apple Music, but getting Apple Music via Chromecast with Google TV remains a complicated process.

Roku was the first major brand to create a standalone streaming player. Now it is the most popular streaming platform in the market, with Amazon Fire TV close behind. Roku’s product line has become a bit too complicated, as with any product that has been around for a decade. The new Express 4K Plus Roku device, which was also on our list, made it to the top of this list.

Roku’s sleek menu system places apps (and not advertisements) first. It offers everything from affordable Full HD streaming to high-quality 4K video straight out of a soundbar. You will enjoy fast streaming if you choose the best Roku sticks and players. Even though they’re reliable, you might find your Roku doesn’t work occasionally. Problems are easily fixed!

Best Roku devices back to school deals

It makes sense to bring a Roku to school, since you cannot rely on campus housing for all the best apps. We are excited to announce early back-to-school sales for streaming devices. The $30 discount on Roku Streambar (opens new tab) is our favorite. It combines a Roku 4K and a soundbar in one small, dorm-room-friendly package. For all your shopping needs, be sure to check out our back-to-school guide

These are the best Roku devices available today

1. Roku Streaming Stick 4K

This is the best Roku device overall

Specifications

Dimensions: 3.7×0.8×0.5 inches

Maximum Resolution: 4K UHD at 60 FPS

Ports: HDMI, USB

Remote: Voice Remote

Type of device: Stick

There are many reasons to buy

+Excellent 4K HDR quality +Dolby Vision, finally+Snappy performance

Avoidable reasons

-Live TV is better with No Dolby Atmos-Amazon

Our previous choice for the best Roku device was the Streaming Stick+. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K replaces it. It’s not a significant upgrade to the previous model, but it retains all of our favorite features and addresses one of the greatest flaws of the predecessor with Dolby Vision. Roku also has a quad-core processor in its Roku Streaming Stick 4K. This is said to improve app boot times by 30%. Although it’s difficult to measure, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K was fast and responsive. Major apps open in less than 11 seconds.

The stick now supports Dolby Vision, which is also supported by HDR10 /+), so you can stream your favorite shows and movies as beautiful as any other. The picture is crisp in UHD quality. The device does not support Dolby Atmos spatially-focused sound technology. While the standard remote works well, we recommend the Voice Remote Pro. Today’s Top Deals

There are many reasons to buy

+Excellent 4K HDR performance+Decent Navigation+Improved Remote

Avoidable reasons

-Awkward design-No Dolby Vision and Atmos

It is not common to get crisp 4K streaming for less than $40, but it does happen occasionally. Roku Express 4K Plus eliminates one of the major annoyances associated with the Roku Premiere. It also gives you a better remote. The remote does not require direct sight so it can be pointed in any direction you like. The Roku Express 4K Plus is a great choice for anyone looking to buy a 4K Roku and all of the apps it comes with, as well as the upgrade.

We still think it’s worth paying a bit more. The design of the Streaming Stick Plus is a bit too lightweight, so it might take a while to get it flat on a surface. This makes it even more user-friendly than the Streaming Stick Plus. Although there is no Dolby Vision and Atmos Audio, some may not consider that worth paying more. This unit has been ranked higher in our rankings recently, because it continues to impress more TG employees with its value proposition. That’s why we named it the most affordable streaming device.

3. Roku Ultra (2020)

The Roku premium device is the best

Specifications

Size: 4.9×4.9×0.9inches

Max Resolution: 3840 x 2160

Ports: Ethernet, USB

Remote: Roku Voice Remote Pro

Type of device:

There are many reasons to buy

+High performance +Includes Roku Voice Remote Pro+USB port

Avoidable reasons

-Expensive – Almost nothing has changed from the model last year

Although the Roku Ultra is a costly device, it offers the best Roku experience. You get the same high-end Roku Ultra features as other devices: thousands of channels, 4K resolution, and fast navigation. The Ultra also has an Ethernet port that provides a steady Internet connection and a USB port that allows you to upload your own videos or music.

The 2020 Roku Ultra is also a bit faster (though it might not be noticeable all the time) as well as offering a wider wireless streaming range. We love the Roku Voice Remote Pro, which has many great features. But we prefer that it doesn’t need batteries. It also features hands-free voice controls, which is crucial in case you lose yours. You can also program it with two buttons and use the headphone jack to listen privately.

Although it may be a little too costly for many, the Roku Ultra is my favorite streaming device right now. After, I switched from my Apple TV 4K to the Roku Ultra. It has similar features, with the exception of Twitch on Twitch’s app front. However, its version Netflix is more stable than my Apple TV 4K when it comes down to Dolby atmos.

4. Roku Streaming Stick 4K plus

+Dolby Vision+Voice Remote Pro – A great upgrade+Simple performance

Avoidable reasons

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus runs slightly faster, can play high-quality Dolby vision and includes the Voice Remote Pro. It retains all the features and benefits of the Streaming Stick Plus but has a little more juice.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus offers all the high-quality streaming, video quality, speed, and affordability that anyone could want, with a simple OS and a very affordable price. It also comes with the Voice Remote Pro. It has a rechargeable battery and an optional always-listening feature. There are also two custom buttons.

There are many reasons to buy

+Improved design+Good performance+Customizable interface

Avoidable reasons

-Too light for you to stay still-Imprecise remote

Since its 2016 debut, the Roku Express has seen a lot of improvement. The original Roku Express was a small, inconvenient device that was not powerful enough. The Express is now a good investment for 1080p TV owners looking for the easiest streaming solution. The Roku Express streaming player is $30 and offers many features. You can also access voice search and private hearing through the smartphone app. There are thousands of streaming channels. Unfortunately, the standard IR remote doesn’t always work as well as it should.

The new Roku Express (2022) is on its way. This adds stability and storage to speed up load times.

6. Roku Streambar

The best Roku device, which is also a speaker

Specifications

Size: 14.0×4.2×2.4inches

Max Resolution: 3840 x 2160

Ports: HDMI, USB, optical audio

Remote: Voice remote control with power and volume controls

Device Type: Soundbar

There are many reasons to buy

+4K streaming+Clear, loud sound+Compact design

Avoidable reasons

-Bass could have stronger-Lacks Ethernet port

If you don’t want the Roku platform’s excellence but your TV has the weak sound quality you need, the Roku Streambar is the solution. The Roku Streambar, which is often on sale, is a great option. The Roku Streambar’s compact design will not take up much space on your entertainment center or counter top, and it provides high quality sound with loudness and clarity. Although the bass is a little lacking, it’s compatible with most TVs. This allows you to combine your soundbar and streaming device into one package and save space.
