Peloton is a leading manufacturer of exercise bikes . However, the Peloton Bike costs $1,495 per month and $39 per month for a subscription. This includes more for spinning shoe. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular Peloton alternatives to help you find a cheaper alternative that offers a comparable experience to Peloton.

You’ve probably searched for Peloton hacks. This means you can easily recreate the Peloton experience at your home for less than $2000. All you have to do is buy one of the top exercise bikes, and use a tablet for the classes. Peloton isn’t the only company that offers this experience. The exercise bikes in this list come with subscriptions for virtual training sessions, so you can get live or on-demand workouts right from your home.

You can get a great workout on any of these bikes, or increase your indoor cardio. Indoor cycling can help you burn fat, improve your cardiovascular endurance, and increase your heart health. Are you ready to go home and spin? Check out our selections for the best Peloton alternative

What are the best alternatives to Peloton?

The Bowflex Velocore is our favorite Peloton alternative. It’s almost as expensive as the Peloton but it features a Lean Mode that tilts the bike to the left and right while you make turns. This gives you a true-road feel. Although it does not offer live classes, the $19.99 monthly subscription provides a lot of content and allows you to use other apps on the large display, including Peloton’s.

The Myx fitness bike is a great option for anyone looking to save some money. The Myx, like the Peloton Plus has a swiveling display and can be used for more activities than cycling. The Myx is half the price of the Peloton and costs $29.99 per month. However, it does not include live workouts.

These are the best Peloton options you can purchase today

1. Bowflex VeloCore

Price: $1,699/$2,199

Screen size: 16″/22″

There are many reasons to buy

+Lean mode activates your core+Works well with other apps, such as Peloton+Can be used without a subscription

Avoidable reasons

JRNY Subscription: No live classes, no extra cost

Bowflex VeloCore can compete with Peloton — and much more. It’s not a cheap alternative, the 22-inch model costs $2,199 so it’s more costly than the Bike, but it offers features that you won’t find on any Peloton option (or any other fitness bikes).

The VeloCore’s most distinctive feature is its Lean Mode. When the bike is not locked, it moves from side to side to simulate a natural riding experience. This allows for better balance, which requires you to engage your core. It also makes it more immersive and enjoyable, especially when you are riding in scenic areas. The VeloCore weighs more and is larger than the Peloton bikes. This means that it can carry heavier riders (325 pounds) but may not be suitable for you if your space is limited.

Bowflex provides original streaming content via its subscription service JRNY. It costs $19.99/month and comes with a two month free trial. All content, including trainer-led workouts, scenic rides and leaderboards, is available on-demand. The JRNY subscription allows you to connect to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+. The JRNY subscription does not have to be purchased if you do not find the content of your choice. Additionally, the VeloCore can be used with other fitness apps (including Peloton’s app).

Price: $1,299/$1,499

Screen size: 21.5″

Subscription: $29/month

There are many reasons to buy

+Less expensive+Swiveling touchscreen+Straightforward workouts

Avoidable reasons

-Basic workouts have a less premium feel.

The fitness bike can be used as a total fitness system, similar to the Peloton Bike+. The MYX’s 21.5-inch touchscreen works just like the Bike+’s, but it costs $1,299 (1,499 if the MYX includes all accessories such as weights/bike/workout mats).

MYX’s streaming service on-demand will require you to subscribe, but it is cheaper than Peloton at $29/month. MYX offers on-demand workout videos, and integrates with Apple Health. The content is not live and there are no leaderboards. It feels more like you’re watching a YouTube video than being part of a community. However, some people may need to be challenged or feel connected.

For those who are looking for a more affordable option, the MYX fitness bicycle is an affordable choice. You won’t feel as if you’re part of a cult, but it’s still a dedicated machine for working out.

3. NordicTrack Commercial S15i/S22i Studio Cycle

Price: $1,599/$1,999

Screen size: 14″/22″

Subscription: $180/year for an individual plan, $39/month for a family plan, or $396/year for a family plan (one-year trial).

There are many reasons to buy

+360° rotating screen +Trainer-led resistance feature+Incline adjust

Avoidable reasons

-Heavy-Cannot use screen without subscription

NordicTrack’s Commercial Studio Cycle looks almost like Peloton’s — it costs $1,999 for the S22i with a 22-inch screen. The Studio Cycle’s 360-degree rotating screen and trainer-led resistance feature make it more affordable than you might think. These are two major selling points of the Peloton Bike+.

The Studio Cycle includes a 1-year subscription to NordicTrack’s on-demand content service, iFit. iFit offers on-demand trainer-led workouts and global/scenic exercises using Google Maps. It also has live workouts with leaderboards. If you wish to continue using the screen after the first year, you will need to subscribe to the service. The monthly family plan is $39 per month (the same price as Peloton’s). The individual plan is $180/year if you are the only person using the bike.

Peloton’s Studio Cycle doesn’t offer an incline adjustment feature. You can adjust the incline of your bike while you work out between -10 percent and 20 percent. This adds an additional dimension to your workouts and makes it more enjoyable. The bike is heavier than Peloton and weighs more than 200 pounds. It can carry riders as heavy as 350 pounds.

4. SoulCycle at home bike

Price: $2,500

Screen size: 21.5″

Subscriptions: $40/month, or included in Equinox membership

There are many reasons to buy

+SoulCycle classes and Equinox classes+Subscription included in Equinox membership+No assembly

Avoidable reasons

Very expensive – No toe cages (requires clip in cycling shoes)

SoulCycle is a boutique workout that may be able challenge Peloton’s cult followers. Peloton’s content and classes are excellent. However, they fall somewhere between a “boutique studio” experience and something more general. SoulCycle is a cardio-dance, but on a bike, type of workout. Both are objectively superior, but they are quite different. The SoulCycle bike may be better if you are a SoulCycle fan and know that it is the right type of motivation for you.

Despite this, the SoulCycle at home bike is not inexpensive. It costs $2,500 and is more expensive than any of Peloton’s bikes. It has a 21.5-inch screen which does not rotate, and it doesn’t have features like instructor-controlled resistance. The bike has a lightweight, sturdy frame that can hold riders up to 350 lbs. (but it weighs only 5-10 lb more than the Peloton bikes).

The SoulCycle is all in the content and classes. Equinox+ subscriptions ($40/month) are required for the SoulCycle at home bike. Equinox+ memberships are free. The SoulCycle bike may be a bit cheaper for those who know they will keep their Equinox gym membership after the pandemic. Both platforms offer live and on-demand classes. While Peloton may have a slight advantage due to its large library, that advantage isn’t as important when there are live classes. Peloton’s free ride option for the SoulCycle at home bike connects to Netflix and Disney+. Sometimes people just want to ride and watch murder documentaries, and Peloton doesn’t seem to understand that.

5. Echelon Connect EX-5

Price: $1,239.98

Screen size: N/A

Subscriptions: $39.99/month, $399.99/year (30 day trial).

There are many reasons to buy

+ More affordable+Dedicated tablet mount (flips 180°)+Pedals have clip in side and toe cage side

Avoidable reasons

All metrics, including heart rate monitoring, are available without a subscription.

Although the Echelon Connect EX-5 does not come with a screen (although it does have a dedicated mount that rotates 180 degrees to allow for off-bike training), it starts at $1,239.98. However, delivery is not included.

Connect EX-5 is much more than a bike with a tablet-mount. The Connect EX-5 also features Bluetooth for connecting to your tablet. This can be combined with Echelon’s FitPass subscription which costs $39.99/month and allows you to see your workout stats. Echelon’s FitPass allows you to stream live or on-demand workouts. You can also compete against friends by using leaderboards. Although it isn’t as integrated as a bike equipped with a screen, it’s close.

The Echelon EX-5s comes with a 22-inch touchscreen. It is still cheaper than Peloton at $1639.98.

6. Keiser m3i Lite Exercise Bike

Price: PS1150

Screen size : N/a

Subscribe to PS30/month

There are many reasons to buy

+Very quiet +Free subscription to the magazine for one year when you purchase a bike +Options of renting the bike

Avoidable reasons

No screen, tablet or laptop required.

UK Peloton users can choose to rent or buy the Keiser M3i Lite exercise bicycle from spin studio Digme. Digme at Home subscriptions are included in the price of the bikes. They are free for one year. You can access multiple Live or On Demand workouts as well as studio’s HIIT or yoga classes. You will have to pay PS30 per month if you decide to purchase the bike. However, this is still a significant savings over Peloton.

The bike measures 44 inches high, 26 inches wide, 51 inches long and 51 inches in length. It is too heavy for most people to move it from one room to the next. It’s quite impressive that the silent magnetic resistance works. We were able test it first thing in the morning without disturbing anyone. The main problem is the absence of a screen. The console shows distance, speed and resistance levels. However, you will need to bring your own tablet or laptop in order to fully enjoy the classes.

This is a good option for those who don’t want a long-term commitment to an exercise bike. However, it is not as attractive as Peloton because of the lack screen.

What should you look for when looking for the best Peloton replacement

Type and adjustment

An indoor exercise bike’s main component is its flywheel. This is the heavy, spinning disk that creates resistance during your workout. A heavier flywheel takes more power to move (and generates more momentum while you are already moving). It also feels more like you are riding outside on the road. Although a lighter flywheel will require less power, it can start and stop quickly and provide a more grounded experience than if you have a heavier one. The flywheel’s weight does not necessarily reflect the resistance generated. However, it will have an impact on your workout by how much resistance you use and how many levels of resistance you use.

Two types of resistance can be found on connected exercise bikes: magnetic and friction. Magnetic resistance is created by magnets, which create a magnetic field. The strength of this field determines resistance. To increase or decrease friction resistance, wool pads are used to press down on the flywheel. Magnetic resistance offers several benefits. It is quieter, adjusts between levels more smoothly, and requires less maintenance because no parts touch each other. While friction resistance is not loud when it’s properly maintained, wool pads can start to squeak and need to be replaced as they wear down. Magnetic resistance is more common in higher-end bikes; budget options have less friction. Magnetic resistance is found in the Peloton Bike and Bike+ as well as the Bowflex VeloCore and NordicTrack S22i, NordicTrack at-home bike and Echelon Connect EX-5. The Keiser M3i uses friction.

It is important to consider the resistance levels as well as how they are controlled. Many indoor spin bikes have a manual knob you can twist to increase or decrease resistance. However, some indoor spin bikes have digital controls. You can choose the level of resistance you need from 24 levels of digitally controlled resistance on the NordicTrack S22i. You don’t need to lean down to adjust the resistance on the S22i’s handlebars. It doesn’t have to be possible to choose a particular resistance level. If you are looking for a more intense workout like SoulCycle where you feel the music, a bike with a manual knob will work better. The Bowflex VeloCore has 100 levels of resistance.

Subscription fees

You will need to pay more if you want to get the best fitness experience. Subscribing often includes more than stats and metrics. You can watch customized content on your bike’s screen, such as on-bike and off-bike workouts, rides through different cities (or exploration via Google Maps), or you can watch your favorite streaming channels like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+. However, if you don’t subscribe, you might not be able use the screen. In the case of Echelon Connect EX-5 you may not even be able see your stats and metrics while you are working out.

NordicTrack offers the best value for money. Each bike comes with a 1-year subscription to iFit. Subscriptions cost between $15 and $39 per month. NordicTrack is the only company that offers a single-person plan as well as a multi-user family plan. Bowflex has the best flexibility. With a $20 JRNY subscription, the VeloCore screen can be used to stream streaming services (Netflix and Amazon Prime Video), as well as connect to other apps like Peloton or Zwift. If you don’t want to subscribe, Bowflex provides a few free workouts that you can use in a limited amount.

Delivery charges

Delivery costs are another hidden cost — Peloton and Bowflex offer free shipping, while NordicTrack or Echelon charge $199 more.

Many accessories, including dumbbells, hand weights, dumbbells, fitness trackers and compatible heart rate monitors are sold separately. Peloton and SoulCycle bikes come with clip-in pedals. To replace these, you will need special shoes that cost between $100-$140 per pair. Our picks for the best footwear for Peloton or indoor cycling.
